The Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus were recently awarded a $1,000 grant from the Hamden Rotary Club in support of their ongoing efforts to help feed the homeless and hungry.

Since last March, the Sisters at Mount Sacred Heart in Hamden have been making sandwiches on a weekly basis for Sunrise Café in New Haven where the sandwiches are distributed to the poor and homeless. The grant money goes toward the weekly purchase of bread and other sandwich supplies.

“Food insecurity is a growing problem in the Greater New Haven area,” said Sr. Colleen Therese Smith, ASCJ, Director of the Office of Mission Advancement. “We are so thankful to the Hamden Rotary Club for supporting our efforts to do our small part in helping defend those who are hungry.”
