Five Apostles Mark Jubilee Milestones

The Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus are celebrating five jubilarians in 2020 and their collective 275 years of service to God’s people. Celebrating 50 years of religious profession are Sr. Kierstin Martin, ASCJ; Sr. Catherine Antinora, ASCJ; and Sr. Lany Jo Smith, ASCJ. Sr. Dominic Joseph Valla, ASCJ, is celebrating her 60th jubilee and Sr. Eleanor Pozzo, ASCJ, is celebrating 65 years. 

Sr. Kierstin Martin began her ministry in education as an elementary school teacher at St. Michael School in New Haven. She has also ministered at Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden. She is currently principal at Pensacola Catholic High School in Florida, where she has been in ministry since 1987.

Since starting her ministry in 1971, Sr. Catherine Antinora has served in education, healthcare, and pastoral ministry. She ministered at St. Michael School in New Haven and Sacred Heart Academy in Hamden. Sr. Catherine is currently in ministry at St. Joseph School in Missouri.

Sr. Lany Jo Smith has served in education ministry, pastoral ministry, and healthcare ministry throughout her 50 years as an Apostle. She’s ministered at Sacred Heart Academy, Clelian Center adult day center in Hamden, and several parishes throughout the state. She is currently in ministry at Sacred Heart on the Lake in Higganum. 

A New Haven native, Sr. Dominic Joseph has ministered in education and pastoral ministry. She was most recently in ministry at St. Patrick Church in East Hampton, where she served as pastoral associate for 20 years. She currently resides at Sacred Heart Manor in Hamden. 

Sr. Eleanor Pozzo has served in education, healthcare, and pastoral ministry. She is well known in the Higganum community, where she ministered for a total of 24 years at Sacred Heart on the Lake. Sr. Eleanor currently resides at Sacred Heart Manor in Hamden. 

Mass and public celebration of these jubilees have been postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic.
